My goal is to build 15 homes by the end of December, to provide safe housing for as many as 100 Bolivians. I'll be working in Villamontes, Bolivia, which is at the southern corner of Bolivia (where Bolivia, Argentina, and Paraguay meet).
The homes will be basic construction by our standards, but worlds away from what the average Bolivian has. The homes will be 2-3 bedrooms with simple kitchens and electricity. We've obtained enough land to build the homes in a neighborhood so the houses will share septic tanks, giving us a great advantage in fighting disease for the homeowners. I'll post pictures here shortly of the houses Habitat has built in Bolivia to give you a flavor of what our project will look like.
I'll be working with local Habitat employees and leading a team of masons and laborers. We hope to "break ground" soon after my arrival in July. The construction will take 4 months barring any of the usual "adventures" (flooding, strikes that prevent us from getting materials, etc.) We're counting on 5 months, but we'll be busy!
