I took this picture for all the San Franciscans-- the architect was explaining to me that they have "tremors" constantly in Cochabamba, so the Habitat houses are reinforced with steel bars.
This is a pretty typical construction for this part of Bolivia. It's 3 bedrooms, ~700 square feet, with a little kitchen and bathroom. They will have electricity and running water.
Cochabamba is surrounded by small mountains. This is the view from on of the bedrooms in the new house.
A photo with one of the new sons in the family receiving the house. He's not sure what to make of the very tall gringa with a big smile, but he gave me a great little hug when I was leaving.
Two of the boys moving into the house have discovered a second use for cement bags-- makeshift kites! Now that's smart recycling.
